Making the Most of Your Massage

It doesn't matter what kind of massage you choose to get, there are some things you can do before and after you massage to enhance and prolong its effects.

Before your massage:

The day before your massage, be sure to drink plenty of water and get enough rest. Leave yourself enough time to get to the massage studio or, if you're hosting a massage in call, have the place where you'd like to receive your massage cleared out so the table and mood can be set quickly. Be prepared to tell your therapist about anything that may be affecting your health, well-being or mobility.

After your massage:

Starting an hour after your massage is complete, begin stretching the areas that were worked deepest. Drink plenty of water. One formula suggests .500 to .667 ounces of water per pound of total body weight. Using this formula, a 200 pound person should drink between 3 and 5 quarts of water daily.
